12:50 PM - USA 9, SouthAfrica 0 in the TOP of the 2nd inning… USA still batting. WOW!!!
There is a 15 point mercy rule too (for 1st and 2nd round) - a spread of 15 points then the game is called after the leading team has batted for at least 5 innings.
1:12 PM - USA 16, SouthAfrica 0 - top of the 3rd.
1 HR for Lee and 2 for Griffy Jr. WOW!
Clemens allowed a hit so far.
1:39 PM - USA 17, SouthAfrica 0 - top of the 5th.
Only Damon and Barrett have yet to get a hit. Jr. is 4-4 with 3 runs and 7 RBIs.
WOW AGAIN!
2:05 PM - FINAL - USA 17, SouthAfrica 0 - MERCY RULE!!!
Yes, I called it in my post this morning…
“I’m seeing a shut out and a BIG score for USA!”
And what happened? SHUT OUT AND A BIG SCORE FOR USA!
WOW.
Here we come Japan!
World Baseball Classic update…
The USA Baseball team got blown away by Canada the other day. I was in shock. I never liked Dontrelle Willis. I traded him away from my Fantasy Baseball team last year right after he peaked for the season. Good riddance. I don’t doubt he’s a good pitcher, I just don’t like him. Yes, he deserved a start for the US team but he BLEW IT allowing 5 runs in the first inning.
USA eventually scored 6 total runs in that game with a big Grand slam HR by Varitek – and I love Varitek! But they lost 8-6. A solid pitching performance would have gotten them the win. 6 runs should be way more than enough for a team with this type of pitching – which faced a team (Canada) with one of the lowest MLB experience out of the whole tournament! But what’s done is done.
Now this puts the team US in a big hole.
Before yesterday’s games the only way the US could make it to the next round would be if…
Canada best Mexico or if Canada loses to Mexico AND gives up three or more runs.
Odds are the latter should have happened… and it did.
Mexico beat Canada by a huge margin: 9 –1.
This leaves USA a chance. They now need to beat South Africa in order to advance. With Clemens on the mound this should be a breeze. But the big question is, “Does Clemens still have what it takes?” He doesn’t even know. He doesn’t even know if he’ll be playing baseball this year.
The team shouldn’t be in this position anyway. But you’d have to bet that with a 43 year old Clemens on the mound against a South Africa team that probably shouldn’t even score a single run.
I’m seeing a shut out and a BIG score for USA!
We’ll see USA against Japan in the second round in Anaheim. Now that game is going to be good!
I was an illegal music downloader back in the day. Napster was awesome. AWESOME! Then they took it away and I never downloaded an illegal song ever again. I never downloaded a song ever again for that matter. Not even for my Classic iPod. I had all the songs already - and CDs. I had so many songs I couldn’t fit them into my iPod – it held 1000.
But now… I have a Nano. And my Nano deserves fresh music. New music. Legal music. And it can only hold 500 so instead of loading all my CDs on it, I’m going with only songs that I like to listen to instead of the full CD.
Since my Nano deserves fresh new music (even if it’s an oldie) I went on to the iTunes store last night and fed my Nano this…

I was SOOOO tempted to buy the iTunes U2 package – 462 songs or something for $142. What a deal! I WANT THAT! But that would mean my Nano would only have U2 on it. So I decided against it.
I’m happy with my songs.
