Where’s the logic?
Posted in: Slice of Life on March 11, 2006 at 9:02 pm by Glenn. As I put the kids to bed tonight I walked out of the room and heard this come from Bella…
“We have a tummy ache.”
Another one of those excuses to NOT go to bed. But the “WE” part got me.
“What did you say, Bella?”
“We have a tummy ache.”
Okay… she says some things like, “Me did” and “Where is him” so, “We have a tummy ache”, was pretty consistent as far as her pronouns go.
“Who has a tummy ache?”
“WE do.”
“Who?”
“Jacob and me do. Can you turn on Bear in Big Blue House?”
Okay, this was a new one. She didn’t want to go to sleep - I can’t blame her since she had a late nap. She wanted to watch TV. Jacob was just sitting there, adding nothing to the conversation. I believe he was just going with it. But why was she getting Jacob involved. Interesting…
“Why do you have a tummy ache?”
“Because we was wunning.”
Jacob has a tummy ache too?
“Yes, papa. Me do and Jacob. Can you turn on Bear in the Big Blue House. Please, papa?”
I gave Jacob a look. He didn’t want to lie. He just smiled.
“You have a tummy ache?”
I had to make sure I was really following this whole thing.
“Yes. Me and Jacob.”
“And what do you want me to do?”
“Turn on Bear in Big Blue House.”
“You have a tummy ache and you want me to turn on the TV?”
“Jacob does.”
I think this has to be the first time she has spoken for Jacob in this way. But it was time for bed so no TV.
There was crying involved, drama, you know the drill - at least if you’re a parent. Anyway, within 15 minutes both were sound asleep without anymore tummy aches or Bears in Big Blue Houses.
Where was the logic?
I guess in her world there was. Watching TV may have made her feel better.
