Another scary movie in the weaker sense of the word…

Urban Legend (1998)
My rating: 6/10
Did I review this movie yet?
Well, in my continued research of horror movies I had to watch Urban Legend. And I was pleasantly surprised ALTHOUGH not too convinced it was that original given the fact that it took an unoriginal idea that being Urban Legends and turning it into a movie and this sentence is just running on way too long…
Okay. Urban Legend’s plot: An Urban Legend becomes reality. The story: a girl comes to terms with the past as her past comes back to haunt her in the way of an Urban Legend.
The acting was okay. Nothing great. Nobody really stood out and convinced me that they were the next best thing in Hollywood. Although I like Alicia Witt especially in the show “Cybill”, and in “Mr. Holland’s Opus” and “Two Weeks Notice”, she was pretty boring in this movie. No real depth, just blah.
I can see some scenes that “Cry Wolf” may have directly stole, but made their own unique take on as the makers of “Cry Wolf” did tons of research for their film
One thing I’ve learned, having watched several movies like this in the past month or so… they are pretty much the same. You just have to suspend disbelief and go with it. Killers always come back, the girl who has sex will die, they always give you several suspects, and the one with the least screen time ends up to be the killer.
How about giving the killer TONS of screen time then reveal him or her as the killer. THEN… prove that it isn’t the killer and stay formula with the killer getting no screen time!
Well, then that would be MY movie and it’s just the same as all the rest. BUT… it works. Just look at the box office.
Urban Legend wasn’t scary enough for me. Not as suspenseful as say, Scream, and I have yet to watch a ‘scary movie’ that grabs me. There’s got to be one out there!
I think I should make my short slice of life about Halloween a movie… In Memory of Luke on his death 10/31/1984
