That says it all really. The only thing I’d like to add is that George Clooney made it clear this movie wasn’t about him. The camera angles, direction, everything was focused on David Strathairn, who by the way was absolutely spectacular in his role as Edward R. Morrow.

When I first started writing I learned about Waldo Salt which led me to the Blacklist of writers in Hollywood: those assumed to be linked to the Communist Party in the 1950s. It was a scary time. This movie is based on Edward R. Morrow and his ‘attack’ on the ridiculous claims of Junior Senate, Joseph McCarthy, who was finally censured by the Senate in 1954 after the disastrous Army-McCarthy Hearings. Another movie that touches on this subject is Frank Darabont’s “The Majestic”, with Jim Carrey: which I also liked.

“Good Night, and Good Luck”, shot in black & white brings us back to those troubled times where government and TV tried to find its place in people’s homes. It’s an excellent movie that deserved all the above nominations and deserved more than just that.

Watch the film!
