Ally is back

Someone found her a block from my house on Tuesday Night at 11:30. They brought her to the Pasadena Humane Society in the morning.

We didn’t tell the kids that she was found. What if it wasn’t her?

Well, first let me say the Pasadena Humane Society is a great place. They have a very high rate of placement. Unbelievably high that people from all over try to bring strays to their location because of the work they do to get them to a pet owner. It’s awesome.

Their kennels are all heated from under ground so the pets don’t get cold at night. They are all fed twice a day and the place is extremely well kept. The handlers are friendly and knowledgeable and really care about what they are doing.

So we get there, give them the ID number we found on the website, and they sent us to Ally’s kennel for positive identification. The moment I saw her it was sad. She was in the back of the kennel and slowly got up. She was mad. She usually runs to me. But she kinda trotted over as if to say, what took you so fricken long. I called her name and she barely reacted. But then, she got all ‘Ally’ on me and hyper and jumping and I’ve never heard her bark that much in my life. The handler radioed to the front, ‘we have a positive ID.’ She couldn’t wait to get out of there. She was the only one barking in the whole place and it was loud. The handler was like, wow, she’s been so quiet all day.

We took her to Petco to get her groomed and by 6:00 she was ready to be picked up. We brought the kids, who thought we were getting a new dog, but when they saw Ally they were very happy.

Everyone, from the Humane Society to Petco, loved her. They thought she was a great dog.

So in two week’s time we’ve gone from a dying gold fish to a lost dog. That’s a lot to handle don’t you think?

Oh, and is this a great song or what?

“Logical” by Supertramp.

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they’d be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world’s asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they’ll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won’t you sign up your name, we’d like to feel you’re
acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the world’s asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won’t you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.
